Radu Nechifor with GheorgheZamfir Radu Nechifor spent his childhood between the small town of Cisnădie at the foot of Făgăraş Mountains, his paternal grandparents' village on Dealu Feleacului, and his maternal grandparents' country house among the vineyards and forests of Argeş.

From an early age he enjoyed painting, wood carving and playing instruments, and at twelve he was admitted at the Art Highschool in Sibiu, where he started studying the panflute.

During the following seven years, Nechifor appeared on stage in Romania and abroad with the highschool's taraf (folklore band) and with the Căluşerul ensemble. His passion for panflute and folklore was inspired in part by the music of Maestro Gheorghe Zamfir, whose student he aspired to become.

Destiny wanted Radu to be one of the three students admitted in 2003 in Maestro Zamfir's panflute class, at the Bucharest Conservatoire. The Maestro guided him on the hard but beautiful path of musical maturation, and towards a profound understanding of the secrets of the panflute. Four years later, Gheorghe Zamfir wrote about Radu Nechifor: “I am happy to present such a talent and proud that through him, who was my student, the Romanian pan flute gained an exceptional element”.

In 2006, Nechifor won the Third Prize at the Mamaia Folkloric Festival, and the Grand Prize at the Strugurele de Aur Festival
